Okay, is it too soon or too late for me to start bitching about how terrible the new map design is? I noticed this as soon as the update first dropped in...2016? God damn, that or 2017, and I'm just being hopeful. It's just so LARGE, the first time I played it, I found it to be way too large for it's own good, yet again I had not upgraded dexterity much and I ran as slow as a snail. Other than that though, no, this map blows, and so do all the changes brought with it. I've been playing the game since I first saw it in 2013 so I think I'll remember most things that robby removed and/or simplified. Seriously, get this:
-Wooden Plains no longer has the Bouncer's Cave, ends up adding indian burrial grounds that look samey.
-The new Wooden Plains theme fucking sucks and I will never stop complaining about it, the old one was so good, this one's so generic!
-Heath's training ground no longer has the spiky plant pit (arguable change for both new players and dumb pet ai alike).
-Mizon (ninja dude) no longer moves, whereas before you'd see him run up to his hiding spot, he's just standing there now, waiting for you to get him.
-The leaderboards are missing from the Mushroom Valley
-The item lottery is gone
-The train to Petropolis is gone, while it has an in universe explanation it's yet another lame excuse to make travelling slower and force you to get area teleportation from the payvault
-A lot of the animations for graphical objects are now missing, such as the Mushroom Village sign and the spinning gears from Robo City.
-The Goo Cube Dungeon entrance seen on the Windmill Top and Robo City is TINY, remember when that was really big and intimidating?
-The Goo Cube Dungeon no longer has the saws which damage you...oh and the bloody circular saws are now not animated either.
-The platforms in the wastelands are now immobile, eliminating all platforming challenge (and removing some of the more intense moments of the Wastelands, which just sucks)
I don't remember much else about the map myself, since it HAS been quite some time since I recalled seeing some of these, but I can't be the only one sad to see the creative level design quirks and compact map get turned into this huge contraption specifically complex to make you buy area teleportation, right?
Lemme mention some other stuff just because if I don't someone else will:
-Every single enemy has been shrunk because Robby didn't wanna increase the hitboxes, making a lot of the previously big baddies look like mid-level goons, especially compared to new enemies like the Omega Fluffs.
-The fonts used are different
-Several art assets like some buildings were not drawn by robby, and while they do look nice usually they're just placed next to the more primative buildings that match the original artstyle, making these new additions clash HARD. I was here when the change happened and it's always clashed.
-The 2.5D floors. I mean I personally don't HATE them but I know a lot of other people do so I just gotta mention it to be done and over with it.
Seriously stuff like this makes me just wanna go back to a time when the game's map wasn't complete shit, a Helmet Heroes Classic or Rewritten if you will...too bad that ain't never happening. I would genuinely give up options such as the PVP server and quality of life improvements such as falling out of bounds not taking away your money, just to have the game as a whole be more fun and less tedious....
seriously tho, helmet heroes classic isn't possible, right?
