It's forward thinking. There may not be anyone who joins as a result, but it can't hurt. Nice people are using the Guild folder.

But, he didn't even name the guild he is recruiting for.

It makes him come across as foolish and carefree to forget subject the entire thread's recruiting for, hurting his reputation.

Yes. The omission could've proven problematic. That doesn't diminish the quality of the original idea, however.

This is actually a good idea.
However next time, you might want to place the name of the guild in the title of the thread.
That way, the ones interested in a particular guild would know which thread to read.
BTW - This also applies for everyone who decides to do the same thing
