The client side code is actionscript3 and he uses frameworks (libraries that act as an engine) to help optimize the game and give many features without having to write a completely new engine for a single game.
The multiplayer uses C# and .net with player.io, again libraries of premade data helps make it easier but he still had to code the code to make the server function with the client.
if you think youre going into this, its not that simple and i don't suggest you wasting your time with his method. Flash is on its way out as its life cycle is on its way out and very outdated. Player.io is good, but documentation for it is mainly around creating a flash game so it will be harder for you to figure it out.
Davi and I used unity to make a sidescroller, got very far and i did the art. We created two side projects for player.io and though we had a hard time figuring it out we managed to get the demo working and then our own server connected with simple movement.
