Birds Because They Lack in Variety

So yeah, birds are lacking in variety. There are six birds in the game as of now: four which are noob enemies and two that are hardly seen at all (one of them being a boss). Flockings and chirplets spawn EVERYWHERE, Kraws spawn in out-of-place areas (how are they not cooked alive by Magmagons?), and Mushroom Birds are basically the bird version of the original Goo Cube stat-wise. I'm not sure if seeing Bionic Birds and Titanium Vultures is lucky or not.

So yeah, bird variety. Let's get down to it. I'll start off with a bird for the Beach area. After all, it's easier to code monsters into existing areas than to code monsters for new areas.

This is the Razorgull. Crabs are kinda big in this game, so to adapt, seagulls bore razor blade beaks. As for their size, well, it makes sense since seagulls eat fish and shellfish. That aside, here's what I got.

Heropedia Entry: The razorgull has the sharpest beak in the land. Razorgulls mainly eat fish and shellfish, though they may steal food from people from time to time. Their numbers are at a decline due to constant instances of suffocation from trash.

Well to make birds more usefull you'd have to change the way they spawn, make areas just for them, make more birds for higher lvls with better loot and xp so that they would actually be worth farming.

1. To make bird-only areas would not only take away the intention behind birds (birds are everywhere in real life, which is why I understand Robby's intention to have them spread throughout the map), but they would not sit well with the players (since land monsters are technically the main source of income).
2. I have a feeling it'd be unwise to do that. I think the rarity of birds helps with loot value and allows players to grind without being killed and teabagged by birds. Look at the Kraw; it drops the Bat Wing Staff, Cursed Robe, Witch Hat, and Skull Spear: all which are very effective moneymakers for players at its level. The Kraw is around Yellow Puff Monster level in strength.
3. I'll get to that later. If my predictions are correct, I'd say that there are some areas where birds can be top-tier monsters (ex. Mushroom Bird) while other birds are best set as middle-ground monsters. It purely depends on how powerful the monsters in an area are. I'd say something like this.

There are two fairies here, aptly named the "Lesser Nymph" and the "Greater Nymph." For those who remember the tree update when Fairyville trees and their HP Bars came in all sorts of colors, you can agree with me that any color would fit in Fairyville except black. These nymphs are white, but they glow blue. A clear sign of magic at that. Now then...

Heropedia Entry (Lesser Nymph): They say that Fairyville got its name from the plentiful Lesser Nymphs when it was founded 200 years ago. Lesser nymphs are small, magical creatures that float around the area. When predators come around, they often sought protection from Greater Nymphs.

Must you always find something to cherrypick? Because that doesn't help. Besides, just because nobody likes Navi doesn't mean her design is bad. These things are no different as they follow a similar design to the tinier fairies from the Legend of Zelda series. That's not to mention that a lot of cartoon fireflies did the same thing.

And you're saying this because you have absolutely no idea on the direction this is going in, not even remotely considering how rarely birds spawn (one time, I wondered if a Chirplet would spawn in Elandra Island AT ALL) and the fact that none of the birds currently in the game are any stronger than a Plant Monster, with said Plant Monster being nothing remotely noteworthy to those who use the forums, of which most of its members grind monsters Lotus Eye level or stronger and a good chunk of forum members being Magmagon-killers to boot.

I support 100%, have y'all never played other RPGs? Almost all of them have that super rare "boss" spawn, where normal monsters are like 10x stronger but give more money and XP in return, these birds are no different. HH has already done this once with the Mushroom Birds, I remember grinding in Shroomville and getting mad about the Birds, but I got over it and kept grinding. The game needs variety other than new high level items, and adding new birds to the existing maps makes sense.

I've literally waited until the game DC'd me and I only got three Chirplets to spawn. THREE. And I was in Elandra Island (the level, not the entire island) where hardly anyone shows up. It takes 15 minutes for the game to DC a player. I can kill an entire crowd of Goo Cubes, max spawned and with Piercing Arrow, and they all came back in a measly minute tops. And back when I killed a variety of monsters, I've killed thousands of monsters, I believe 20k, and yet I've only killed, I believe, two or three hundred birds. I studied this game as if it were my own, to the point where Coke himself told me to take a break from analyzing the game. Yes, I've made a moderator tell me to take a break; that's how extensively I've studied the game.

Also, as I've said before, NONE OF THE BIRDS ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN A PLANT MONSTER. By the time people start grinding Plant Monsters, nobody's gonna bat an eye towards the birds. I didn't include Bionic Birds and Titanium Vultures because those are ridiculously rare and thus excluded from this point. If a bird were as powerful as a Glord or a Lotus, then it is free to say "Here! Have an Element Wand! You earned it, buddy!" But until I can get all this through, no. And stop making your pets grab loot for you if you don't want "trash items."

Lastly, nobody has ever found the exact location of a bird spawn point as far as I know. Those spawn points are completely out of the way, allowing players time to detect AND react to a bird appearing in an ample amount of time. If I had a Jetpack on me (which is improbable because they cost $10M+), I'd be the first person to actively find a bird spawn point, but even then, nobody would be crazy enough to willingly take leaps of faith off the edge of the map to find a sideways bird spawn point.

That's literally the direction I'm TRYING to take birds. At best Kraws drop Bat Wing Staffs, Cursed Robes, and Witch Hats: all which make a lot of money in the long run (Witch Hats drop at a rate of 65 in 10,000). Might I add that Kraws are basically the bird version of Yellow Puff Monsters?

I don't have the patience to make a long explanation because SOMEONE else had to take it away from me, but to sum it up...

1. Some birds I've created are made to make the game noob-friendlier. These birds are the Lesser Nymphs, Coconut Hatchlings, and a planned baby Mushroom Bird that's expected to be barely any more durable than a Mushroom Ball. I only expect the baby bird's power to be 42; much more harmless than the Mushroom Bird's 100. All are weaker than the Flockling, which is nowhere near beginner-friendly (it has a power of 48).

2. I have stronger birds planned that would allow stronger players to enjoy the rewards of. The first bird I've made that is stronger than a Kraw is the Greater Nymph, and I gave the thing Pink Crystal Armors, Wand of Blessings, and Crystal Heart Shields: all which would normally be too much for a creature of its power. I have the drop list with me as a reference, so I would know. That's not to mention that the birds I've made are expected to provide extra EXP rewards much like the Mushroom Bird during the lifespan of its 2nd stat set (3500 HP, 140 Defense, 120 EXP (as opposed to 96 with a normal monster of that power level), and 200 Power) and the Kraw.

3. A bird I've animated, yet not posted in picture form on the forum, is a Skymill bird intended to push back the Pet-AFKing problem in Skymill. I meant "push back;" only setting new spawn points in an existing area would completely halt Pet-AFKing altogether. Think of the use of birds against Pet-AFKing as... skin care lotion: moisturizing your hands for a good time, but those hands will soon become dry again. Orange Crazies take 360 base pet power to one-shot; actual power may vary by multipliers provided by pet modes. I'm expecting this bird to have 1600 HP, 140 Defense, and 200 Power; significant enough of a difference to make this push against Pet-AFKing last a decent time (1734 base pet power to one-shot and 200 defense required to tank). It's kinda modeled after the Metal Louse "Orange Crazy replacement" mob for Skymill I've drawn up (and I'm still not sure how strong a Metal Louse should be).

Maybe they could drop fish / shiny fish.

Now THAT is quite a way to give people an incentive: giving birds crafting material. My immediate concern, though, is that the game is programmed to have fish dropped while in the water go back to acting like normal fish. If a mob were to drop a fish when it's killed in the water, the first reactions would be the typical "nothing again?" and "What the s***? Why did that Shiny Sliver spawn over there?!" because of the intentional game design.

Now logs and wood are less of a concern yet equally worthwhile for crafting. I can see if Coke can put the Willow Tree Log in the Great Frog's drop list primarily to test its possibility (I have found that Pet Striped Beanies and Pet Stone Helmets, which have no drop rate, drop with the default base drop rate of 0 after using two luck pets to obtain both Pet Helms from Penguins). If this little experiment proves to be successful, I can see about giving the Kraw the Weeping Willow Log. Yeah, I went with the Weeping Willow because the Acid area's a trap that lures players in and keeps them from getting out without Area Teleport.

I did find a flockling spawn point in a event before.

(It was in Fungus Lane #47, next to the teleport to Mushroom Village with its sign, straight above the coin box in the air, but you need heli or jet to reach it)

After a personal move to throw isa467's trading thread Robby's way, I've decided to post more birds; this time, focusing on the Blue Mushroom area. Gee! I'm STILL in the south and I've yet to get it all out of the way. Will I get through it all? Maybe this bird thing, which is huge enough at its largely-unfinished status, can be used to lure Robby closer to Isa's trading idea when I get to it. So far, I've counted 37 monsters in my personal bestiary; 23 animated. Anyway, here are the next birdies.

I've played enough RPGs (I have YEARS of experience) to know how common palette-swap enemies are in RPGs. Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, Epic Battle Fantasy, and even Kingdom Hearts did palette-swap enemies. The Red and Blue Shroom areas were just easy palette-swap targets. And no, I'm not running out of ideas; in fact, I have a flying turtle enemy in mind.
