Greetings people of this forum.
It has been quite a while.
Plunging face first back into the world of Helmet Heroes, I see bright new faces among a smattering of grizzled veterans. It’s a testament to the timeless joy that Robby’s, and now Coke’s (Congrats dude. I had no idea) work brings to our life.
Yet an ominous cloud loomed over the simple joys of the game. I heard whispers asserting a new pestilence of sorts: looting. Those whispers, over the next few days I came on, grew to shouts, professing horrors and indignation alike. It dawned on me that an epidemic of sorts had proliferated this virtual world, one that threatened to cast our joy into storm.
Recently, I have been fortunate enough not to fall victim to this calamity. Yet I felt compelled to take action, partly due to my previous experiences with a looter named mandapat2014 (Hope you enjoy the ban).
Without further ado, I have a little rationale in favor of OP’s argument.
Looting is morally wrong. It promotes a gameplay revolving around leeching off the efforts of others for selfish gain. Helmet Heroes wasn’t meant to be that. The individual who put forth the effort to defeat a monster is, in my opinion, the one who deserves to get the drops. Efforts are praised via tangible rewards. Take a look at the XP system. A specific allocation of XP is dedicated each player based off of the contribution they made in defeating a monster. That system should be echoed when it comes to money and drops, which are arguably a much more valuable commodity.
This moral regression can be extended outwards past the virtual bound of the game. Looting correlates to stealing. It is indisputable that stealing is wrong. The governments of the world have deemed it illegal (if you’re an adamant supporter of stealing, that’s a different story, and you have a pretty big problem). It doesn’t matter how occupied a worker is, in the end, you’re not going to steal his paycheck simply because you happened to be opportunistic. So if Helmet Heroes wishes to express itself as a glorious microcosm of the gracefulness that the physical world brings, then it should deem looting unreasonable, and subsequently remove it.
I bring up my next idea off a tangential offshoot of the first, and that is expression. The players of Helmet Heroes ultimately are imprinted upon by their play style. Being a looter hones dishonesty, mischief, and generally “nasty” attributes that matter little in the context of the physical world. Yet in my recent hiatus back to reality, where I applied (albeit very early) to college, I reconciled with honesty and kindness while writing my essays, which I found to be the most beneficial traits known to man. The bread and butter of this game, the proud grinders whose sweat, blood, and tears go into every monster defeated, every dropped item obtained, every level gained, are these kind of people. The kind of people who will go on to succeed in life, make friends, and find fulfillment, again, legacies of Helmet Heroes that extend to the real world.
I hope you found this somewhat informative about the moral aspect of looting. I’ll hang around for a bit and answer any concerns that you have, but let’s try to keep this thread as civilized and amicable as possible.
Sincerely,
c8897
