From my point of view this seems like an attempt at grinding in areas which a pet does not have sufficient defence to stay alive in by leaving the pet at a safe zone. As a means of quicker pet level up.... so no support, since it takes out the challenge of keeping your pet alive.

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but I think it'd be great if we could have it (if it's not too difficult to code).
